What is a chunk?

A chunk is a piece of information or data within a document.

A chunk is any piece of information that you might find in a document, often associated with a Tag. Chunks can be small fields like dates, names, places and amounts, or larger clauses and structures like tables, or paragraphs. They are tagged with semantic labels that describe what they represent in the document, e.g. “Name of Applicant” or “Expiration Date”.

Chunks in documents are intrinsically hierarchical. Each chunk may consist of several smaller chunks (child chunks) or be a part of a larger chunk (parent chunk).

As you hover over text in the Document Viewer, you can see chunks highlighted in blue and can easily select or resize these chunks.
